Wardrobe Favorites
My favorite wardrobe pieces and the history behind them.
Coach Mini Logo Bag
In the early 2000’s, Coach dominated red carpets and city streets. A monogrammed bag or dainty wristlet could be seen on every young starlet at the time. However, all good things must come to an end. What was once a luxury brand, became a suburban staple. Throughout the mid 2000s, Coach faced a period of outdated and tacky bleakness. It’s difficult to pinpoint where Coach went wrong, but luckily they’ve begun reinventing themselves. Coach is currently the latest “It Girl” brand for Gen-Z women. Between their “Coachtopia” collaboration with actress, Lola Tung, and their revival of the 90s baguette bag, Coach has become the newest quiet luxury brand. As for me, my go-to purse is my mini logo bag. She is a prized possession of mine as she’s been passed down to me from my trendy mom. Whether I’m at the farmer’s market or grabbing drinks with the girls, she’s always on my shoulder.
Afghan Coat
If you’ve seen Almost Famous or Sex and the City, then you’re familiar with the iconic Afghan coat. While thrifting in my hometown, I stumbled upon this treasure of a piece. Hidden behind layers of old puffers and canvas bombers, I saw tufts of fur peeking out. I had finally found the widely coveted suede and fur jacket. This is no ordinary coat. It can’t be replicated by modern fast fashion companies nor can it be easily found online for a low price. Named after its country of origin, Afghanistan, the Afghan coat was created by nomadic artisans out of sheepskin and wool. The Afghan coat became a winter staple for men, but soon began to travel all over Europe. By the 1960s, the Western World was embracing rebellion and self expression through exotic fashion. These unique fur trimmed coats caught everyone’s eye when John Lennon wore one at the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band 1967 album launch. Many artists such as Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd followed in Lennon’s footsteps, soon establishing the coat as the newest fashion trend. Many people now recognize the coat as the “Penny Lane” coat, after it was worn by Kate Hudsons’ character in Almost Famous. Today, it’s become a winter staple that can easily spice up any outfit. It’s best worn with denim or knee high boots.
Levi’s 505 Jeans
Since 1853, Levi’s has been adapting and innovating in order to create quality denim products. They’ve established themselves as a denim pioneer and have become the go-to brand for jeans. I’ve outgrown almost everything from my high school wardrobe, but the one piece that has stayed with me are my Levi’s 505 jeans. Purchased off of Depop on a whim, they’ve become a staple piece in my wardrobe that compliment every tee and sweater that I own. After years of being worn and washed, the fabric is soft and sculpts my body, providing a sense of familiarity. Whether dressed up for a night out or paired with a simple tank for a casual day, they effortlessly blend style with comfort. My favorite jeans have become an integral part of my identity, a reliable and cherished pair of jeans that have withstood my most pivotal years.
Adidas Blue Fusion Gazelles
In a closet full of neutrals, my blue fusion gazelles are a staple piece in my daily outfit. Their suede texture and pop of color elevate any outfit. My favorite combo is a pair of low rise jeans, a white tee, and my gazelles. Adidas has been a member of the iconic 90s capsule look in the past year. The Gazelle was released in 1966 as a shoe for athletes but after several design changes, became a dominating trend in the 90s. It’s almost impossible to not want every single color sold.
